What do I do if I accidently disconnect the Ultra HDMI user interface in the Connections menu?

Don’t worry, if you have a keyboard connected to the Ultra, you can hold down the <ALT> key and press <H>. This should re-make the connection.

Note that on software versions earlier than 3.4, the connection can be remade using the web browser interface and if this is not available, turning the Ultra unit back on will automatically connect the user interface to the HDMI output.

How Can I install the latest Ultra software?

The latest Ultra software is typically in the Downloads area of the web site. To access this area of the web site you will need to log-in. The Ultra software is supplied as an .omk file (for example ultra_3_3_50_0.omk). This can be installed in 2 different ways, via USB stick or via a network connection.

Software Installation via USB stick:

Down load the software and copy the .omk file into the root directory of a FAT32 USB stick.

Insert the USB stick into one of the USB slots on the rear panel of the Ultra unit.

After around 30 seconds the Ultra should recognise that there is a new software file to be installed.

When the prompt appears to install the software, select the software listed and press OK

After about 2 minutes the software will be installed and the Ultra unit will reboot to load new FPGA and software.

Down load the software and copy the .omk file into network folder accessible to the web browser controlling the Ultra unit.

In the “Configuration” – “System” menu select the “S/W Update” function in the “Files” section.

Navigate to where the .omk file is held then select it.

How often does my Ultra 4K Toolbox need calibrating?

Calibration has been required traditionally to compensate for aging analogue components within the equipment. Even in digital equipment there are analogue components such as driver chips, resistors, capacitors and crystal oscillators as well as analogue variables such as temperature and power rail voltages that may have an effect on the perform of digital circuitry especially with high clock rate signals such as those of 3G-SDI, 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI signals.

Many organisation’s quality system require that all test and measurement equipment is regularly calibrated and does not differentiate between analogue or digital based designs. Typically, manufacturers will recommend a calibration schedule for their equipment as they understand which parts of their products may drift, which components will age and what the impact will be. In the case of the Ultra 4K Tool Box, there is no recommend recalibration period, but due to Omnitek’s policy of continued product improvement, the calibration process allows customers to benefit from any improvements to the calibration process that may improve the accuracy and/or repeatability of measured results.

How can I find my Ultra on the network?

Ultra units can be controlled via a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer. The web server within the Ultra can be accessed via a network by entering the units IP address or “Machine Host Name” into the browser address field. For example:

Where the unit’s unique Mac Address this is printed on the bottom of the Ultra unit in the form: fc:c2:3d:08:23:03

Once the web browser is connected to the Ultra’s web service the user interface will be displayed in the browser window.

If the Ultra unit has been renamed, of if the unit has a static IP address that cannot be discovered, on power-up the Ultra will automatically route the user interface to any connected HDMI monitor. Selecting the Configuration menu from the user interface will display the current network IP Address and the unit’s unique “Machine Host Name”.

Why does the Ultra 4K Tool Box not display jitter on the Eye diagram?

Omnitek made a conscious decision to eliminate the jitter from the Eye pattern and provide more appropriate jitter measurement tools. This decision was made while developing the Ultra 4K Tool Box to support 12G-SDI because the permitted jitter for some frequencies is 8UI (unit interval or cycle) thus making the Eye pattern unusable. Even at 0.2UI the Eye will close making it difficult to measure accurately. For most practical purposes the Eye should be jitter-free so that the signal shape can be seen and the critical parameters of amplitude, rise time and fall time can be measured.

The Jitter Meter, Jitter Histogram, Jitter Spectrum and Jitter Waveform instruments provide a much more accurate assessment of the jitter on the signal rather than completely masking the Eye pattern with levels of jitter that are actually permitted for 12G-SDI.
